God's Words For US

Our Savior
Date Posted: November 4, 2016

Those of us in our town who believe in Jesus Christ may learn a great lesson about our faith. A group of refugees recently inaugurated a temple in our city. A newspaper article covering the event also listed the beliefs of this group. One of those tenets of their faith caused me to think about how precious Jesus Christ can be to those who follow Him. This group, with a new presence in our town, believes in Salvation without a Savior, (i.e. each person is can save himself.)

Jesus, our Savior

Jesus Christ came to earth to teach us how God desires us to live. God chose to send Him to earth as a baby, born to a carpenter and his espoused wife. In sending Jesus to us in this way, the heavenly Father showed us that Jesus, His Son, was for all people.

When Jesus went to Calvary, he chose to give up His life in order that God would forgive our sins. Not one of us can save ourselves; we have to have Jesus intercede for us before God.

When a person comes to Jesus, that person asks for forgiveness for his or her sins. However, there might be actions done that each person does not think of as being sinful but God might not agree. In addition, he or she may have possibly done some wrongful acts that that he or she had forgotten about. Jesus’ interceding before the Father takes care of those as well.

Man’s View vs God’s View

Several years ago, in our town there was a man who ran a tavern on the near west side. He found the Lord and chose to make that business building into a beauty salon for his wife who was a hairstylist. I heard the story from a friend. I never met that man but I believe God has a place in heaven reserved for him.

Honoring our Savior

How can we honor our Savior? We honor Him when

1. We rely on Him to get us through difficult events and times of trial.

2. We intercede in prayer for a friend or anyone who needs God’s guidance.

3. We study His Word.

4. We extend grace or mercy to another person,

5. We apply His Word to our lives and our behavior.

6. We come together to worship Him.
