God's Words For US
by Cecelia Lester
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (NIV)
As believers in Jesus Christ, what is on our hearts here in the middle of the year 2015? Are we concerned about those around us and where they are with the LORD? We should be.
“Pray continually” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV)
After the mass murder in Charleston South Carolina last week, I couldn’t get that city off my heart. I am thankful that they have united to face this tragedy as children of God. Have we prayed for that city and their loss lately? We need to.
We serve a God of love and compassion. He is sovereign; He can do what He chooses about any issue in our world. He still wants us to seek His guidance for the issues we face. He also gives us soft hearts so that we can intercede for our families, friends, neighbors, and anyone we hear about.
“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Oh LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 (NIV)
Do we honor God at all times? This is a difficult one to answer, maybe even to ask ourselves. If we believe we haven’t, we can ask God to forgive us and plan on doing better in this area.
Do we honor confidences when a family member or a friend shares a hurt or a need with us? Sometimes we have to construct boundaries to be able to keep confidences and to keep our lives in synch with God.
“In your anger, do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.” Selah Psalm 4:4 NIV)
Do we ask God to heal our emotional hurts or do we ‘nurse’ them until our next mad spell or let them fester until we get so angry we make scenes? Some of us have known people who always appear to be angry about something. Maybe, we have been like that ourselves. If we have been or still are like that, we can ask the LORD to forgive us and to guide us as we become more like Him in all we do.
One day recently, I looked at a dry-erase board calendar I try to keep. I decided I needed to update it. I certainly did need to; the last month I had changed it was for the month of January. Yes, I have been in a low place since then. My devotional book for this year is divided into weekly chapters. I opened it the first of this week to see that this was week 25 of this year. Where did those weeks go? Did I waste those days? I feel the need to ask God to forgive me for wasting the days and hours He has given me. But one time several years ago when I felt I had wasted a whole day I heard a voice tell me I had been right where He wanted me to be at that time.
Dear Father God: I give You thanks for Who You are. I thank You for Your faithfulness, even when I am unfaithful. Guide us through each day as we strive to live for You. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. AMEN
