Congratulations and God Bless!

School is almost over – for some it may well be already – and I want to congratulate you on your effort this year and send some of you out into the big bad world with sound advice and encouragement. In meditating on what to say, an old-time hymn came to mind, “Take the Name of Jesus With You.” In looking for it I came across another good one, “Take Time To Be Holy.” No other advice I could give would be more appropriate or better expressed.

You are all well-educated (or in the process of being so) and prepared for success in the world. Make sure you are as well-prepared to be successful in the spiritual realm; as that is what will make everything else worth the effort and allow you to truly thrive. As you go, wherever you go – back home for the summer or on to establish a new one of your own – be sure to: “Take the name of Jesus with you…” “It will joy and comfort give you, take it then where-ere you go.”

“Take the name of Jesus ever as protection everywhere; if temptations round you gather, breathe that holy name in prayer.”

“At the name of Jesus bowing, when in heaven we shall meet, King of kings we’ll gladly crown Him when our journey is complete.”

“Precious name, O how sweet! Hope of earth and joy of heaven”!

Accompanying that is our need to respond to God’s love expressed through Jesus’ life and death – our response to the honor of being associated with His life and ministry. God, realizing His standard of perfection is beyond our grasp, (Matthew 5:48) nevertheless does expect us to attempt to better ourselves as we grow in faith, understanding and faithfulness. Thus he calls us to be holy, (1 Peter 1:15,16) which is the diligent attempt to be what God intends and expects of us.

“Take time to be holy, speak often with God. Find rest in Him always, and feed on His word. Make friends with God’s children; help those who are weak, forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.”

“Take time to be holy, the world rushes on; much time spend in secret with Jesus alone. By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be; thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.”

“Take time to be holy, let him be thy guide, and run not before him, whatever betide. In joy or in sorrow, still follow thy Lord, and looking to Jesus, still trust in His word.”

How could I add to perfection except to once again say – Good luck and God bless!

Don’t forget, we’ll be here weekly throughout the entire summer; so if you get tired, bored or need something to think about – look us up!
