Relationships of The Heart w/ Nancy

Stepping Back Into The Battle
Date Posted: July 1, 2012

There are times when we step out into the battle of life, and it is not the enemy that is causing the problems in our relationships. Instead it is the words that we speak. God states very matter of fact in his word that;

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45

When we begin to make excuses for the words coming out of our mouths and place the blame for our words on another we are literally saying that Luke 6:45 is not valid in our life. I recall a scene from one of my sales consultant days when a customer that was no longer a customer, released exploding words in our conversation. In fact I was trying to find out what the problem was. This man began to scream and yell and walk in circles. Now I could say, well he is yelling and spewing nastiness into my ears and this gives me the right to scream right back. But instead I chose to sit and listen. When he was finished we had a professional chat.

According to the world, I had plenty of justification on my side to begin to yell and scream at him. Yet, according to God's word we are each responsible for the words that flow out of our lips. Check out James 3. Read and meditate on the words that are written. At first glance this passage may make us groan and think how can I begin to live the way James is telling me to live.

In ourselves alone this is impossible, but with the help of the Holy Spirit this is possible! In John 14:26 we read the words Jesus spoke before going to the cross.The Holy Spirit is our helper and our counselor. When in a tough situation and ready to explode, send up a quiet, Lord I need your help, give me your words, or prompt me to be quiet.

For today; Take time to examine the words that you spoke in the last few days. Ask yourself, "What side of the equation of Luke 6:45 are my words flowing from?" If the words that come to mind are on the evil side of the overflow, it is time to sit down and have a serious chat with God. This usually means, more listening in prayer and reading the word. No one can change this issue for you, not a Pastor, a leader, an elder, or a trusted friend. Change comes when we repent, and in the repentance there is a change. This change may require you to go to another and confess your sins, or go to another and ask for forgiveness for the words that were spoken this week. Whatever the situation, God will cover you with his grace and his mercy. For he is looking for a repentant heart, that is sincere and draws close to him.
