FACING MYSELF(pt-2)
Date Posted: October 12, 2008

What are the consequences of not taking the time to face yourself?

Every person in this world will have to face major life changing, heart-breaking, gut-wrenching events at least once and sometime multiple times in their life span. Even though these are not every day occurrences, they will affect the rest of your life. They can change the course of your life forever and even destroy it. If you have not prepared ahead of time for these kinds of problems, when the pressure comes you will collapse like a house of cards. No matter how strong you are, even in the word when times like these happen they can cost you. Some people fall away during these times and never make it back to God. They choose (by not facing themselves) to remain spiritual baby hueys and when the time comes for them to grow, they run from the pain and responsibility of growing up and eventually crash and burn. So what do I do to start facing myself?

Lets look at what Jesus did in the garden. Read Mark 14:32-42. In verse 32 it states that Jesus began to be sore amazed and very heavy. The words 'sore amazed' in the Greek means to be struck with terror, to be thoroughly terrified. Can you imagine Jesus being terrified? It goes against every thing we thought we knew about Him. But remember, He laid aside His deity and came to earth as a man. He had emotions and feelings just like we have. In the next verse it states that Jesus told His disciples, "my soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even unto death. Stay here watch and pray". This shows us a picture of what Jesus' soul was going through. He prayed in the garden until He got the victory over His soul. Until He had received the supernatural strength He needed to finish what He had to go through. I believe with all of my heart if He had not prayed in the garden until He got the victory there, He would not have made it to victory on the cross. He even warned His disciples repeatedly, watch and pray, watch and pray, watch and pray. Like my pastor stated in his message on this, they were not just physically asleep but they were spiritually sleeping, not alert to what was going on right under their nose. And it cost them the strength to stand up strong and because of not watching and praying they did not have the strength not to deny Christ and flee when the pressure was applied afterwards.

In our own lives we need to go to the garden before the pressure comes and STAY THERE until we receive the strength we need to face the battle. We need to STAY THERE until we recognize what it is that causes us to fail again and again in the same area. We need to STAY THERE until we face ourselves and let God deal with our hearts and show us what we need to see and receive the strength to let Him help us change it. We need to STAY THERE and watch and pray until we know we have that note of victory in our hearts and know that we can go from that place facing the battle ahead in victory.

1st we have to realize that we need to be in the garden. We need to see that there are things that are not working in our lives, issues that have been at the edge of our conscience that we push down, a lot of times because we just don't know how to deal with it and feel defeated in that area all the time.

2nd we have to make ourselves, [DO YOU HEAR ME?], make ourselves sit down and don't move, on purpose and pray this thing out. Our flesh will go crazy on us, our mind will go nuts and we will feel uncomfortable pressure, BUT STAY THERE and continue to pray. You will even start to feel better, then you want to get up because you felt some relief. STAY THERE and keep praying, because you are not there yet. Then your gut wrenching, heart tearing prayer and tears will happen. God will start to show you things about yourself and you will be heart broken. Continue to pray and you will feel your strength start to return and a true lightening of your load. You will know that you know, how to go forward in victory and you will have an unshakeable confidence that you can be free of this thing in Christ's strength and you will go from your garden experience, in the power of His might just like Jesus did and be able to face what ever comes in victory and be free once and for all in that area.

A lot of times at this place we realize the root of a lot of problems we thought was one thing is actually something totally different and we can see the root and pull it up so it will wither and die. I pray for us all to have the strength to learn to face ourselves and do whatever it takes so we can grow and be able to stay awake, watch and pray so we will not crash and burn when bad times come. Be Blessed! Lisa

Biography Information:
Lisa Mendenhall lives in Smackover, Arkansas with her husband of over 28 years, Chris. She has 4 grown children who also love the Lord, each serving Him in some capacity. As a teacher of the Word, Lisa, believes that she has a responsibility to use her God-given gift to teach those who have a desire to live victorious in Christ how to do so. She believes in order to live victoriously, one must get to know God and His character. His character is love. Therefore, Lisa has a heart-desire to bring people to a greater understanding of God's love. Her teachings explain that when His love is activated IN His children, it will motivate them to give just as His love motivated Him to give 'His only begotten Son', Jesus, to the world. God's wisdom does not always flow with the world's system of wisdom and His Word says, 'my people perish for lack of knowledge'. Lisa states, 'During meditation one day, I heard the word 'winnows'. With great curiosity, I learned it to mean,

'To separate the chaff from (grain) by means of a current of air. To rid of undesirable parts. To separate or get rid of (an undesirable part); eliminate: winnowing out the errors in logic. ...separate grain from chaff...separate the good from the bad...examine closely in order to separate the good from the bad; sift...' (www.dictionary.com) 'This study gave me direction and focus for my teaching.  God had placed a longing in my heart to teach the body of Christ how to separate from carnal thinking and rid themselves of old ways that hinder their Spiritual growth. I desire to see them live victoriously, by the 'higher ways' of God's wisdom.'
