Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
We are not told who wrote the first Psalm. It is as if these words come from God, directly inspired by the Holy Spirit.
We have this descriptive picture of a man whose delight is in the Word of God, and he knows that God's Word is going to protect him from the counsel and advice of the ungodly or wicked, and prevent him from getting into the company of sinners.
He wants to know what God is saying, and so he seeks to meditate upon it continually. Meditate means to think seriously.
What kind of man emerges and develops? We have someone, who is like a tree planted by streams of water. This is not a wild tree, but a tree that has been specifically planted in a favourable place.
God tells us of his qualities and character, using the illustration of the tree.
He is securely anchored, and not easily blown over by fashionable opinions.
His roots reach down into streams of water. If one dries up, another revives and nourishes the tree.
There will be fruit in its season, and if it is not the season for fruit, his leaf will not wither, but remain evergreen.
These hidden resources feed you, and not only keep you alive, but fresh, and able to refresh others.
Whatsoever he does prospers, because he is separated from sinners, saturated in the Word of God, and situated by the waters.
These words leave no room for failure or frustration.
You cannot think right and live wrong, and you cannot think wrong and live right.
The wicked or ungodly are like the dry useless fruitless rootless lifeless chaff, which the wind just blows away.
Speak about wealth and riches! You cannot buy what is on offer here, anywhere!
