Whatever was he doing that remarkable morning some sixty years before putting it all down on paper?

John, the youngest of the twelve disciples, had been with Jesus Christ for three years. He and his older brother, James, had been very close to Jesus.

He had been out at Calvary and had seen his hero and leader and Lord crucified.

Three days later, women returned from the tomb, reporting that the massive stone had been rolled away, revealing an open door, but more importantly, explaining that there was no dead body of Jesus inside.

Peter decides to go and check things out. That is always wise. If you ever hear an unlikely story, or a peculiar rumour, do check it out.

Peter goes running through the narrow streets of Jerusalem. John goes too, and being the faster runner, he arrives at the open grave first, looks in, and sees the cloths which had been around the dead body of Jesus.

The tomb was not empty.

Peter finally arrives and goes right in. That is so typical of impetuous Peter. Right in, right away!

John then ventures in and when he observed the facts, he believed.

John was the first man to believe that Jesus Christ was risen from the dead, and in the strength of that assurance, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, John went on to serve in the Kingdom of God for sixty years.

Most things come to an end in the cemetery, but not when the living God is involved.

John had evidence and a very real experience. We need both.

When the evidence and experience are married together there will be spiritual consequences, with mature obedience resulting.

With John, and all the others, it lasted.
