“Why did He allow this to happen? We heal a man in His name and we are thrown into this Jerusalem jail. If this is what it is going to be like, then we are off!”

There is not the slightest hint of this type of pathetic reaction from Peter and John as they are unfairly and unjustly treated by the religious authorities, following the day of Pentecost.

Going off in the huff would never enter their regenerate heads.

They were put on trial before some of the wealthiest and influential folk in Jerusalem.

When Peter speaks, he is reasonable and respectful, and in control of his emotions, but also factually and challengingly pointing to Jesus Christ.

The same court which had tried Jesus eight weeks previously, realise that these ordinary fishermen from the north, were not academically educated and trained, but that they had been with Jesus.

Peter and John were different, and this was noticed and observed and commented upon. They were bold courageous men of integrity, imbued with the grace and power of Jesus Christ.

Compromise and giving up is not part of these disciples’ thinking.

For the remainder of their earthly lives they remained faithful to the Jesus who had called, chosen, and empowered them.

The religious authorities instructed them to be quiet about Jesus. There was little hope of that transpiring.

These men of God had been trained to endure and persevere, and they did so right to the end of their lives down here.

The court issued threats, and looked for a way to punish them.

Peter and John refused to be bullied. Their programme was not going to be determined and decided by men, but by God.

The only way perseverance can be learned and exhibited is by persevering.
