Dare to consider for the briefest of moments what it would be like if it were not true.

“If Christ has not been raised from the dead, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” That was one man’s incisive dogmatic conclusion, as he dared to contemplate this pathetic possibility.

Can you imagine if all the trust you had ever put in God were one huge mistake?

Stop. Go no further. Don’t even mention it.

Does the very thought not send a shudder through any disciple’s mind?

So why raise it? Because we are informed that the huge mass of people within our own nation do not believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, and those who believe, in some superficial way, are not absolutely certain.

We must never run away or hide from challenging circumstances.

Of course, Paul, who dared to pen these words above, never had the slightest doubt. He had been confronted by the risen living Christ and he enjoyed deep fellowship, and even friendship, over the next 30 exciting and demanding years of his life and ministry of preaching, teaching and writing.

If the Cross had been the painful agonising end, then Christ’s brave attempt at being the Saviour failed. But it wasn’t.

The women were the first to learn of this astounding work of God.

Peter and his colleagues each met Jesus Christ risen from the dead, and so did many others, and so do many others even today.

Paul knew the living Jesus would never let him down, and so can you.

He realised the mighty powerful love of God would never be exhausted nor run dry, and so can you.

He knew his blackest sins were forgiven, and so can you.
