Word from Scotland
by Sandy Shaw
In Acts 18, Paul goes to live in the home of Aquila and Priscilla, who had been expelled from Rome. We know that 'Jews who had been stirred up by a man called Crestus' were ordered to leave by Emperor Claudius.
Aquila was of the same craft or trade as Paul - tentmakers. In Tarsus, Paul had learned the trade of sewing together Seleucian goat hair cloth to make tents, and when Paul ran out of money, he worked. He did not just pray! He lived by faith and earned his living.
In 2 Corinthians 11:9, Paul explains how he did not want to be a burden to the believers and he sets us an example. Paul had a healthy attitude to work. As a disciple of Jesus Christ, be the best workman you can be - the most loyal and obedient worker wherever you work and serve. Decide to be the most reliable and dependable person wherever you go. Now, this is not an emotion - it has nothing to do with how we are feeling - it is a decision!
Make that decision as you study this study from Scotland. This coming year be the finest that you can be. Be in the Word of God every day sending down deep roots which will supply refreshing water in times of drought, and keep you fruitful when times are hard. And, of course, pray - and be a faithful member of your local fellowship where all the others rejoice when they see you appear.
God does not reveal His secrets to lazy people.
During 2006 - work - serve - study - read - pray - and see what fruit God will produce from your ministry.
