Word from Scotland
by Sandy Shaw
Having been studying these opening two Chapters of Luke, let’s continue in Luke. It is good to read and study the Gospels because the Gospels keep us focused upon what are the basics and sometimes we can move away from these too easily and seek that illusive notion of ‘the deeper life’!
It is also good to ask good questions and if you have good questions do ask them. For most of the questions we have, there are sound solid answers.
The Gospels remind us how our Christian Faith was birthed and launched and of course we also need the book of Acts too as we read there how people came into the Church of Jesus Christ.
When in Uganda and Kenya it has been a joy and a privilege to take Pastors and Leaders through the first fifteen Chapters of the book of Acts, because there we see how to come into the Church of Jesus Christ, and how to behave in the Church of Jesus Christ, and we learn there too some very fundamental principles for leadership.
In Luke Chapter 3, the Word of God came to John in the wilderness.
There is a new Caesar on the throne of The Roman Empire. Again, we are rooted in history. He proved to be a bad Emperor, and seeds of decay were sown.
There was political upheaval in Israel, as the nation was divided into four. There was no one king, so later on people were quite accurate when they said, “We have no king but Caesar”. There was also a question as to who was the real High Priest. There is no one king, and no one clear High Priest. The stage was empty.
The scene is set for one to come who was both King and Great High Priest.
It is into this political chaos and confusion Jesus Christ comes.
Will it be chaotic confusion when Jesus Christ comes again? From what He said and taught, it is highly likely that there will be confusion and unrest and turmoil in virtually every area of life.
We read of a man in the wilderness, waiting and preparing, and the Word of God comes to him in a new and real and meaningful way.
Is that not one of the most difficult things to do when we are preparing?
To wait, and to wait upon Almighty God, aware that His timing is always perfect, is seldom easy.
If you are waiting, continue to wait patiently and worshipfully and prayerfully until that special and specific moment arrives.
