Word from Scotland

“If we can only get another government, a different government, then all will be well.” Not so. It needs more than that – much more than that.
Jesus has been speaking about the Kingdom of God in Luke Chapter 6, and what Jesus says is so very different from today’s ideas of Government. It was quite radical then, and it is equally radical today.
There is no political solution to a moral problem.
Isaiah spoke to the Hebrew people regarding their imprisoning exile in Babylon.
Bringing them back to the Promised Land was comparatively simple.
Bringing them back to God would be more challenging, requiring spiritually powerful leaders like Ezra and Nehemiah.
Physical or political restoration is not the remedy for the human problem.
Isaiah makes that clear, as do the gospels, the letters, and the book of Revelation, in particular.
Governments can only guide. Government has no power to change the human heart.
Man needs the love of God the Father, the forgiveness of sin which comes only through Jesus Christ and the blood shed on the cross, and the equipping and anointing power of the Holy Spirit.
To be delivered from the financial mess, the moral mess, and the spiritual mess, we need the Servant whom God provides. He is Jesus Christ.
Now Government is good and Government is necessary, and we live in probably one of the best governed lands in the whole world. Very few realise that.
Good Government uses taxation to maintain law and order, applying the sword when necessary, and the sword was not used only for spanking.
Jesus Christ spoke positively about the need for Government and our responsibility to uphold Government, and in Jesus Christ’s day Government was not all that good.
But this same Jesus does speak of that time when excellent Government will emerge and appear, where He is acknowledged to be King, and when every knee will bow, and be glad to bow.
It will be called the Kingdom of God. Will you be present?
How concerned are you about our nation, and the condition of our country?
There was a man of God who wrote with tears flowing from his eyes, because the law of God was not being obeyed. God thought this so important He made sure these words would never be lost.
He prayed that his eyes would be opened so that he could see the wonderful things in God’s law. He asked that God would lead him to walk along right paths, because in these paths he would find delight.
What is our greatest need? Do we need a great Prime Minister, or a great Government? No. We need a great Saviour. This is what our country really needs.
No man can answer the needs of the times – our sinfulness – our waywardness – our lostness.
Jesus Christ approached Jerusalem descending the slopes of the Mount of Olives. He stopped and wept over the city, because the people would not come to Him.
Weeping can be a sign of real concern. Weeping can indicate the severity of the burden which God gives a man.
Jesus wanted to gather people, as a mother hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but men and women would not come to Him. This broke His heart, and caused Him to weep. Weeping is not a sign of weakness.
Greed and corruption and selfish deceptive leadership will continue no matter which Government holds office.
Who is this Jesus? He is the Son of God who is deeply interested and concerned about every aspect of our life.
That man of God described how he loved God’s commands more than gold.
When Peter and John approached a cripple outside the Temple, they had no silver or gold, but they shared what they had, and the lame man walked!
