Can You Trust God to Protect You?
Date Posted: December 11, 2006

We are studying Acts 23, slowly, taking our time, and we are reading of a whole series of troubles coming upon Paul the servant of Jesus Christ. All he set out to do was report to the Church in Jerusalem as to how God had used him during these past five years of travelling, preaching, teaching and ministering.

Then, he made that visit to the Temple, sparking off a furious uproar. He was rescued, but managed to give his very personal testimony to Jesus before he was finally imprisoned. He was about to be tortured - then he was put on trial before the Sanhedrin - where he caused a division which resulted in a violent riot - and Jesus Christ appears to him in that military jail. Now, don't rush through all this. There are important lessons for us all.

Following that there arose the plot to kill him, when forty men vowed to ambush this man of God and have him dead. Paul's nephew informs the Roman authorities as to what is going on in Jerusalem - and Paul is hustled away that night to Caesarea - protected by 470 of Rome's finest soldiers - all this upheaval in the middle of the night to protect one disciple of Jesus Christ - because he has work to do elsewhere.

The Roman Commander sends a covering letter with soldiers, explaining fully why such a decision has been made.

Verse 27. This man was seized by the Jews. They were about to kill him, and I came and rescued him, when I learned that he was a Roman citizen." This is so different from Chapter 22 verse 24, where the same man was planning to torture Paul.

Can you trust God to protect you and preserve you, if you still have work, which He wants you to do for Him?
