Come O Lord, our God - Meet Our Deepest Needs
Date Posted: August 5, 2024

“It is not good for man to be alone” – Genesis 2verse 18 .

We each need spiritual support and stimulation – and God has given us this tool – this vehicle. God created and birthed – the Church of Jesus Christ. We need strength and stability – an empowering sense of awe of the presence of God – we need to feel wanted and experience significance and satisfaction. We need comforting and challenging.

We need to establish a solid world view which enables us to stand in the storms of life. How do we handle the trauma which life throws at us?

We need to experience the power of God in our life – a sense of AWE – a sense of reverence – of the wonder of something greater than ourselves.

We are created for worship, and if we do not worship God, we will worship something.

It is vitally important to have God in our lives – to know that our sin and sins are forgiven by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and to be aware of being led and guided, in all kinds of various ways, by the Holy Spirit.

Every culture in the world worships someone or something.

We need a place to shine or sparkle – to develop our spiritual gifts – to find significance and satisfaction – and yet these may come through service and selflessness – through our giving our lives away in the service of others – that is, to those in need.

We hear people say – “I know there is a God – I love God – I worship Him my own way, or on my own. I like Jesus – I just do not want or need the church.”

Independence just does not work. What do we hear in these times regarding this serious matter of loneliness? We need each other more than we realise.

We need the attention of others – their approval – affirmation – and affection – we are made by God to give and receive.

“Since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.” Romans 12verse 5.

Being a member of a Fellowship – being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ – is not optional – not for a disciple of Jesus Christ – commonly called, or regarded, as Christian.

If you want to know how important you are – just be missing – and others will be looking for you – wondering how you are, and where you are.

I need others to walk with me – so that I can walk with them.

Colossians 2verses 6,7 – “Just as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him . . .” God compares aspects of our life as a walk. There is safety in numbers.

Numbers can be supportive – others encourage us – they keep us going. We learn more when we walk together, and meet together, with others.

Noah walked with God – Enoch walked with God – as did many others. “Let us not give up the habit of meeting together . . . Instead, let us encourage one another.” Hebrews 10 verse 25. When we least feel like worship that is when we need it the most.

Community and fellowship is God’s answer to LONELINESS – 1Corinthians 14verses 30,31.

Ephesians 4verse 16 – “As each part does its work, it helps the other parts grow, so Christ’s whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” I cannot grow without others.

1Peter 4verse 9 – “Open your homes to each other without complaining.”

Is it not true that everyone has a longing for belonging? Is that not one reason why there are so many organisations – clubs – gatherings?

I need others to work with me – and me to work with others. “God made us to do good works, which He planned in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2verse 10

“Two people are better than one, because they get more done by working together.” Ecclesiastes 4:9

Community is God’s answer to FATIGUE – sometimes people feel so tired, but when they are with others the tiredness can fade a little.

Snowflakes are frail and fragile on their own – but together they can stop traffic.

“Every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.” Galatians 6 verse10

“Father God, we thank You for the Church of Jesus Christ – we thank You loving Father, that Jesus birthed and launched the Church on the Day of Pentecost – we thank You that the Holy Spirit has remained over all these years – and we thank You for the baptism and outpouring of the Holy Spirit – thanking You again for all we have seen and witnessed and experienced over these past years. Gracious God, we praise You and worship You for Your utter faithfulness down through the ages.” Amen.
