Word from Scotland

Do not scoff but pray
Date Posted: February 28, 2005

We begin in Acts 13:24. Before the coming of Jesus Christ, John preached repentance and baptism. These are two vital areas where faith and salvation are concerned. No matter how powerful and effective a ministry John had, he was not the promised one. John pointed to the One who was to come after him - namely Jesus.

This message of salvation, of being rescued from sin, is to us and for us - Jews and Gentiles.

Paul speaks in this passage about Jesus being executed, referring to the cross, and this whole activity being illegal. But God raised Jesus Christ from the dead, and those who had travelled around with Jesus saw Him risen and alive.

Verse 33 teaches us that what God promised, He has now fulfilled and Paul preaches the resurrection in verses 33,34,37. And, through Jesus, sins can be forgiven.

Everyone who believes can be justified. Paul is so practical and personal as he speaks about Israel, Jesus, and then, you.

It was as if Paul was aware that some were about to scoff and he makes reference to Habakkuk Chapter 1 verse 5. Don't scoff at what I am saying. Down through the years many have scoffed. Do not despise or reject Jesus Christ. But this is exactly what they were about to do.

Do not scoff at any part of The Word of God, and should you know of anyone who scoffs at or ridicules The Bible, pray for that individual.
