If Any Man Is Thirsty Let Him Come To Me and Drink
Date Posted: May 20, 2024

At Pentecost, the risen and living and ascended Lord Jesus Christ poured out the Holy Spirit upon one hundred and twenty disciples just as he had promised. Jesus always keeps his word. Jesus Christ always fulfils his promises.

Has Jesus Christ given you a promise that has as yet to be fulfilled? If it was given by Jesus then know that he will keep his word and fulfil his promise to you.

Jesus was giving to these waiting people hope and power and anointing as he was equipping them for service for the rest of their lives.

We read of the Holy Spirit being described in so many ways in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

There is this astonishing wind as these people were awaiting something to happen, but they did not know what, and they did not when it would happen, and suddenly a wind blows.

It is good to feel and sense the wind of the Holy Spirit, but we can experience the Holy Spirit without that blowing of the wind.

He can come as fire and set us ablaze. Do you need to be set ablaze with the fire and power of God?

The wind and the tongues of fire are signs and symbols of power but in reality, they are more than symbols.

We witness natural winds in all kinds of ways in the world. There are tornadoes and hurricanes and typhoons and these are powerful and often do much damage. The wind of God can cause damage too, if used, by careless or irresponsible disciples, in the wrong way!

Here was God visiting His dear beloved people, and it was so real.

The fire of God was a symbol of sin being burnt out and also the comfort and warmth of God’s love as we serve a needy pained world and many are in such dire straits.

Many dear hurting folk need God’s comfort and warmth and love.

We read of the Holy Spirit being poured out signifying water to refresh and revive and renew. Again, many need to be inspired and refreshed and given new life by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus speaks about coming to him and drinking, if we are dry, or if some dry religion does not satisfy – John Chapter 7. Read of that occasion, and receive what Jesus Christ offers.

We also need God’s refreshing water if we are going to grow spiritually and mature spiritually. If anyone is thirsty let him come to me and drink. If you are thirsty today come to Jesus Christ and drink, and drink deeply of the Holy Spirit.

When you take that drink, that drink is transformed into a well, or even a reservoir!

Around our world we keep hearing of how there could be a global or universal shortage of water. That will be exceedingly serious, but there will never be a shortage of the Holy Spirit.

Water is so powerful too. We had waves battering our shoreline last winter and causing havoc and damage. Water can smash cliffs and grind away rock hard stone, and does that not speak of how God can deal with stony hearts? Keep praying!

Water quenches our spiritual thirsts. Many are looking all over the place for refreshing and for a deeper spirituality or for inspiration and these can only be found via the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

Many do not realise what they are thirsty for.

Take that drink – drink the water which Jesus Christ alone can give – and let that sip become a well, or reservoir.

“Gracious God – You were so generous that day when You created the waters. Jesus – you were so generous when you poured out the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. Lord God, refresh and renew us. Where people are spiritually thirsty, satisfy that thirst – and may they experience that well – that reservoir – thank you for these amazing miracles. Amen”
