Know That Your Inheritance in Christ Can Never Be Lost or Stolen
Date Posted: April 29, 2019

Whatever the bankers may have done over these past years with interest rates, investments, and inheritances, nobody can touch this inheritance. It is indestructible, non perishable, unfading and cannot be spoiled – and it is reserved for you.

No one can take it from you and give it to someone else. Your inheritance in Christ Jesus will be kept for you, and you will be kept for it.

When Peter takes up his pen, his writing is saturated with the relevance and significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This amazing inheritance is for those who have come to Jesus Christ and who have gone on serving Jesus Christ faithfully, and bearing fruit.

Read again that first letter of Peter – at least read again Chapter 1 and be reassured that these truths are grounded in the Word of God.

To be alive physically, you have to have been born – to be alive spiritually you have to be born again. Jesus made that so clear, and it was the experience of three thousand on the Day of Pentecost.

Paul refers to this as resurrection, in as much as God came to us when we were dead in trespasses and sin, and raised us from all that – raised from the dead!

This is the essence of our Christian Faith and Christian Life.

The essential element of our new birth is a human impossibility. Man cannot do it. It is all of God, by his mercy and grace and power. God did this for these people to whom Peter is writing, and God continues to do this today.

Peter goes on to say that we are shielded and protected by the power of God – the meaning of ‘shielded’ here is ‘being kept’.

Today, our world can tolerate almost anything – except faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and the unchanging truths of God’s Word, as we have these in the Bible.

Is God a stranger in this world, just as disciples of Jesus Christ are strangers, exiles and aliens? This is not our home. As we look around, we are reminded of this reality.

Over many years, Israel had been exiled from her earthly home, and then the God who chose her, brought her back. God has done this twice.

Who first opens our eyes? Who gives us a longing and desire for God? Who makes us realise that we need a Saviour, to save and rescue us from our sins – but the Holy Spirit?

Somehow we knew there was a living God, active in the world, and He began to lead us to seek Jesus Christ.

This is how the work of beginning to be a disciple starts. We are drawn, or we are convicted of our sin. Something we are doing wrong is brought to our attention by the Holy Spirit at work within our lives, and we want rid of that thing, so that we may be in a better position to serve and obey Jesus.

We are pilgrims, on a journey, just passing through – but to where? Peter goes on to answer that in his letter to scattered persecuted disciples.

With an uncertain future before us in the world, we need this living hope – this real assurance which is vibrant and vital, breathing certainty into our lives.

All this is possible because of God’s great mercy and love, but it has to be received, embraced, and experienced.

Death has lost its sting. Yes, it nips a little, and the memory of that nip can remain for some time – but death has lost its sting.

The heart of the human problem is the problem of the human heart.

“Loving gracious holy Father, we thank You for the love and hope and assurance given us in, and through, the Scriptures. When there is confusion and unbelief and apostasy around, keep us grounded in the solid sound foundation of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. When people around us try to have us look elsewhere – keep us looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Amen”
