Peter Kept on Praying Too
Date Posted: June 14, 2004

In Acts 10 we read of God sending an angel to Cornelius the Roman Army Officer, at the garrison Headquarters in Caesarea. Cornelius needs to meet Peter, and the angel informs Cornelius exactly where Peter can be found.

We have seen this in Chapter 9 - when we need help - ministry - we ask - we send for those whom we know can help. We let the pastors and elders or leaders know that their ministry is urgently required.

It was NOT God's job to let Peter know of the need in Caesarea. It is the job of Cornelius to obey God and send for Peter to come and minister.

When the angel departed, Cornelius calls for two servants and one of his faithful loyal soldiers, and once he explained all that is going on, he sends them to Joppa, some 20 miles south.

As these three men approach Joppa, around noon the following day, Peter goes up onto the flat roof to pray. While he is praying he becomes hungry. He wants something to eat, but he does not stop praying. He continues to pray and falls into a trance.

The Holy Spirit has a special work to do in Peter's heart. Peter has prejudices which as yet have still to be overcome.

What a lot is going on, and people do not always see the full story. Remember, that so far, the Christian Faith has been limited to Jews only, and God wants to open the door to those of us who are not Jews, so that we too can receive the mercy and love of God through Jesus Christ.

Are there any prejudices in your life from which God has as yet to set you free? Are there any bondages, grudges, resentments, from which you need to be released? Ask Jesus to deal with these before you go any further.
