Stoned - Prayer - and the Importance of Fellowship
Date Posted: May 2, 2005

In Acts 14:16, Paul continues to speak following, these astonishing reactions to his preaching. God has let the nations go their own ways, but in the world there has always been a witness to His Goodness. God has given you rain. God has given you crops and food and JOY. Paul speaks about our Creator God. There is no other book in the world where such a succinct accurate explanation is given. There is no other book which gives us an accurate detailed reliable account of Creation.

Let me share this personal comment with you. For over 20 years I have studied the topic of Creation and I have found that the biblical account can be supported by scientific information and facts - not theories. If you wish to research further in this crucial area let me point you to the Web pages of "Answers in Genesis". If we move away from Creation and God's standards then man gets into all kinds of difficulties - too many to mention in this study - but these are vital matters for disciples of Jesus Christ.

The problem in Lystra worsens. The situation deteriorates as trouble increases. A gang from Antioch and Iconium appear. Again they stir up the people to win over the crowd. They start to stone Paul, and within a few minutes Paul is dragged out of the city, supposedly dead.

O, how a situation can quickly change. How fickle some people are! One moment they want to worship the man - the next moment they want him dead. These are facts of the Christian Life. Come to terms with this quickly.

The believers gathered around this collapsed unconscious heap. They thought he was dead. Dear Barnabas is there, standing over the marked bleeding wounded scarred body of his colleague and friend and fellow-apostle.

Was this what Jesus had separated them for? Was it for this they were set apart? Paul lies there motionless. It looks as if it is all over for Paul. Some are praying.

All of a sudden he opened his eyes - rose up - and went back into the city. What courage!

O, how precious and valuable the fellowship of believers is, especially when you are down - and more especially when you are this low. How good it is to have band of disciples around you in your hour of real need.
Are you in close fellowship with all the other disciples of Jesus Christ in your geographical area? If not, will you do something about it this coming week?
