Word from Scotland
by Sandy Shaw
In Luke Chapter 6 and at verse 12, we have the list of those men called by Jesus Christ to be His disciples and Peter is named first. From the outset, it would appear, Jesus has His eye on this man. Jesus saw the potential and realised his energies and abilities, when ultimately channeled in a different direction.
Peter emerges as the leader of that young Church of Jesus Christ and leaders lead for good or ill - well or badly. That meant persecution and imprisonment from the beginning. There is a Cross to carry.
The Father gave these men to Jesus, so that He could teach and train them, and prepare and equip them. We read of that in John Chapter 17, when Jesus is in prayer.
A disciple can never resign if the calling of God is upon his life. O, he can run away and give up and give in, or be like Judas, and go and hang himself.
These men are thrust out into the world, following their three years of discipleship training. They did not know what they were getting into.
Peter was in the front line. That is the way Jesus works. Having been chosen and called, they are taught, commissioned and equipped. hey are anointed to preach, heal, teach and lead.
It is good to take time to return to remember, to look at, and to study the essential basics.
God always has a group who are chosen, and even in that group there will be those whom He will call to come closer - like Peter, James and John. These men were used by God to change the world.
When Almighty God is doing something in this world He created, He invariably uses the Church of Jesus Christ, and down through the past two thousand years we have seen that time and time again, and history records that truth.
In the Gospels and in Acts and the letters, we see two groups. We see those who need Jesus and we see those whom Jesus needs.
What part will you play as God reveals to you His will for your life and service and ministry?
