Acharit-Hayamim and 'New Age' Cult
Date Posted: March 30, 2008

The Spirit expressly states that in the acharit-hayamim some people will apostatize from the faith by paying attention to deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come from the hypocrisy of liars whose own consciences have been burned, as if with a red-hot branding iron. - 1 Timothy 4:1-2

It is Satan’s duty to tempt you and help you go astray. It is The Holy Spirit’s delight to test you and lead you in The Way. It is the nature of every child, given a choice, to pick the shiny candy over the nutrient-dense foods. Imagine now the American Church in the context of this very image. You might rightly discern a pandemic situation that has produced undiscipled loners grasping for something - anything - to fill their drought-stricken spiritual tanks. The New Age movement which has gained much attention due to Oprah’s great popularity is not ‘new’ nor is it a threat to the Divine Kingdom in any way as some may fear. A falsity is powerless against unchangeable Eternal Truth. Paul wrote to Timothy about a time when believers would aphistemi (or apostatize) - fall away and withdraw oneself - from the faith. These are believers who are not rooted and grounded in The Word of God and holy fellowship. For the time is coming when people will not have patience for sound teaching, but will cater to their passions and gather around themselves teachers who say whatever their ears itch to hear. Yes, they will stop listening to the truth, but will turn aside to follow myths. - 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (It was also a lack of patience that drove the Israelites to build the golden calf.)

This deception ‘You can be God!’ has been around since The Garden. This is the old message of the New Age from Oprah’s/Tolle’s own deceived hearts (2 Timothy 3:13). Ninety percent of New Agers are women is what a recent article on this subject matter has stated - many of them professing believers in Christ. The ‘new age’ author’s first victim was a woman. Her name was Havah (Hb. ‘life-giver’). You know her as Eve: Now the serpent was more crafty than any wild animal which ADONAI, God, had made...The serpent said to the woman, "It is not true that you will surely die; because God knows that on the day you eat from it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." - Genesis 3:1,4-5

The Hebrew word for serpent, nachash, means to ‘whisper a magic spell’. In other words, Satan had deceived Eve, who was under the authority of Adam. Nachash also means to diligently observe, which is what the Adversary does with us. “The serpent was more cunning than any wild animal which ADONAI, God had made” (Genesis 3:1). It was Adam who was given the initial Word from God Himself. Adam’s lack of adhering to God’s Word and protecting Eve from anti-Truth BY OBEDIENCE to that authoritative Word (“Because you listened to what your wife said and ate from the tree about which I gave you (Adam) the order...” Genesis 3:17) allowed for the deception of Eve in the Garden (1 Timothy 2:14). Again, look at the American Church today. Do you find deep-rooted discipleship (Truth-protection from false teachings)? Do you see a community of believers committed to loving one another produced by of an abundance of fruit? These devoted disciples stand fast together upon the Apostle’s Doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer. That is the Hebrew way. It is ADONAI Who then graciously adds to our numbers those being saved (Acts 2:42-47).

The battle is not with Oprah and Tolle or any other false way to ‘The Great Conscience’ (their idea of God). Only by the Word of Truth Himself are we able to completely see and be free of deception. The battle is within each one of us to fight the good fight with the Armor of TRUST and a GOOD CONSCIENCE ourselves...promoting love in the context of a community in Christ. Instead of being surprised at the great wickedness in the acharit hayamim, we should each be looking within asking our Sovereign LORD for this love that proceeds a Divine TRUST and a Good Conscience (Gk. suneido - to see completely) by which many ask us of this HOPE we have. ONLY those in humble submission to the Spirit of God are able to see completely (see James 3:13). As we are changed, they will ask.

I WAITED patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He drew me up out of a horrible pit [a pit of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay (froth and slime), and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings.

And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord. - Psalm 40:1-3

A NEW SONG within each of us is always the precursor to those putting their trust in ADONAI. A NEW SONG, not the empty ‘New Age’, is what the deceived are really seeking for themselves - love, joy and peace which comes only from The Spirit of God thru Jesus Christ. Do they see a NEW SONG in you?

The Great Apostasy was foretold in letters to the Thessalonians and to Timothy. But, we have been commissioned during these times to be and make disciples (Gk. matheteuo - to learn and also instruct) in holy living by the Spirit of God resulting in transformed lives. We are not called to make converts to our ways of thinking - that is deception, too. When the Spirit of God disciples, lives are changed by His love and spiritual tanks are no longer empty. In essence, as we feed others ‘nutrient-dense foods’ of Truth, the child’s palate no longer hankers for unsatisfying shiny candy. It’s a spiritual matter. We are to grow stronger in the LORD (being more set apart/made holy by The Spirit) thru effective, Spirit-filled discipleship even as the world grows more wicked and many of our own apostatize. Demas’s divided love had not been cultivated thru holy fellowship and sanctified by the Spirit...so his affections and love of this present world were greater than that of His love for the LORD and his brothers. May that not be said of you and me.

Many turn aside because of a lack on our part of making disciples as we have been anointed and appointed to do. This lack of fruitful discipleship within their congregations is due to a lack of loving and growing relationships within our churches...which has been caused by the lack of authentic holy fellowship amongst believers. This is the progression and plan of our Great Bridegroom for His Bride.

Here is a statement you can trust, one that fully deserves to be accepted (indeed, it is for this that we toil and strive): we have our hope set on a LIVING GOD Who Is the Deliverer of all humanity, especially of those who (actively) TRUST. - Paul (1 Timothy 4:9,10) As this happens, the LORD Yeshua the Messiah Himself will usher in the ONLY Divinely decreed New Heavens and New Earth.

Father God, only You are able by Your Spirit to sanctify us with Your Truth - Your Word is Truth. May You make us completely holy for the sake of Your Great Name. May You give to each of us a hunger for righteousness that we may be filled. And in turn, may that change within us spark a Divine ‘calling out’ of this world those who have been taken captive to do the Adversary’s will. Thank You, Father, that even the Adversary is Your servant, Sovereign God! Now to Him Who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to God our Savior, Who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.
