Easily Provoked?
Date Posted: June 15, 2007
He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. - Proverbs 17:27 Remember those wounds you would get on the playground as a child? You know, those wounds you would stubbornly and painfully pick the scabs from and wonder why it hurt so much and would not heal? What great advice did your momma give you? Quit picking at the scab, Child, so that it can heal! Just as God designed our physical bodies to heal from injurious wounds, so He has designed our souls (minds) and spirits to be restored as well, through Christ Jesus. We receive this healing and wholeness ONLY AS we cooperate with The Healer. ‘Picking at scabs’ is not part of His plan and only causes more hurt and delays healing. Let us look at the sin of being easily provoked. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 lists that love is not provoked among the other very convicting attributes of Godly love. So, how do we avoid becoming easily provoked in life? It is a two-part process. Step 1: Determinedly cut off the power supply (the old nature) to the carnal buttons others will continue to push as long as you live. Step 2: Allow the God of shalom to cover your wound and heal it completely by His method and timing. HaG’dulah BoM’romim (The Greatness on High!) is the One Who set in motion both the time and the method of our healing (1 Peter 4:19). Our Faithful God always gives us ‘holy indicators’ of what is wrong internally that is causing our unrest. Often, we misinterpret those signs and our spirits become easily provoked. If so, He has yet to heal some wound in our lives. IF you are suffering in accordance with the will of God (meaning your own evil deeds have not caused your suffering), the only way for you to ‘receive your blessing’ (1 Peter 3:8-17) is by TRUSTING GOD and DOING GOOD. Wow! You mean it’s NOT always someone else’s fault? Is Peter saying that God uses difficult people and trying situations to ultimately bless us? YES! BUT we must trust God by doing good if we are to inherit that blessing! Have you ever noticed that scar tissue heals tougher than the other skin around it? In fact, scar tissue indicates that a former wound has recovered. We spiritually ‘pick at the scabs of our wounds’ through works of unforgiveness, bitterness, malice, resentment and blame. When a child of God behaves in this manner, he is not trusting God, nor is he ‘willing’ for God to heal that wound once for all. The person who is easily provoked does not possess a calm spirit when his wound is touched. He feels as though the wound is recent and reacts accordingly. On the other hand, touch a person where his wound has been supernaturally restored by God Himself and you will get a response that the world does not recognize. Re-read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. This is what love looks like. How is your spirit about now? You and I, Sister, play a major part in our healing. May you receive that blessing very soon as you trust God by doing good and ‘enduring all things’ by the Spirit of Christ!
