  • I baptized my phone
'Refreshment in Refuge' from Gina Burgess

You know you rock along really well for a long time not doing anything stupid. You don't get all puffed up about it, but you feel really responsible because you haven't locked your keys in the car in years, you haven't locked yourself out of the house in months, and you haven't spilled your dinner on your shirt in days. Then you do something really stupid like wash your cell phone... in the washing machine... with bleach. I never took out the insurance on my phone because I've had one for years and years and I've never dropped it in the sink, or on concrete, or in the…

  • Whatever Happened To Sin?
''Christ in You...'' from Dale Krebbs

Its such a small word, this word “sin”, to have such disastrous consequences. A word that has destroyed kingdoms and individuals. It all begins with pernicious thoughts, feelings, and finally escalates to small thoughts, desires, and finally the act that completes the circle of destruction of everything right and valuable. Today it seems to be increasingly the norm. The subject is seldom even mentioned. Immorality has finally been enshrined. The road that was once at least level, has cascaded into a plunge into unspeakable acts. Shame has perished. Now it is Sin City.…

  • I See Dead People (Updated Version)
'Voice of Inspiration' from Andy Castro

It's true. I see dead people. It's not a daily occurrence but, on average, every couple of weeks or so. I have to wonder why I am privileged to see them. I didn't ask for this, and I certainly didn't expect it to happen. When it first happened, I was quite shocked and moved emotionally. It took me back to the time when I was a child, and my grandmother died. I wept bitterly. I recalled the last time I held my nineteen-month-old son, who had just been pronounced dead. The pain was so profound; I couldn't cry. I'm at a hospital five days a week. I see these dead people…

  • Walking Among Dangerous Ground
'Inspiration For You' from Randy Mitchell

It's sometimes nice getting something for nothing. No matter if it’s hitting the sweepstakes jackpot, being picked for a job you really weren’t qualified for, scoring a free tank of gas with your next fill up at the local 7-Eleven, or a winning hand in Vegas, it’s in our genes from the moment we’re born till the day we die. But realistically, part of being a responsible adult knows what crosses the line between getting something for nothing, morally and legally, or the same abusively, therefore making others pay simply because a structure’s in place…

  • Bible and Quote - November 17-21
'Bible verse and quote' from Jan Couns

I considered my ways And turned my feet to Your testimonies. Psalm 119:59 A turn involves two things: a turning from something and a turning toward something. William Barclay, 1907-78, Church of Scotland minister, Professor of Divinity, author I hastened and did not delay To keep Your commandments. Psalm 119:60 Be expedient to fix and detain the motion of the Spirit now striving in your heart, for it may be the moment of present advantage for victory over difficulties hitherto found insuperable. Charles Bridges, 1794-1869, preacher, theologian Church…

  • God and Kindness
'God's Words For US' from Cecelia Lester

God and Kindness “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. . .” Galatians 5:22 (NIV) Our lives have been hectic lately. We got our living room painted and new carpet installed. In the middle of all this our son called. The moving van was going to be there to gather his belongings and furniture on Friday—not inside a four-day window that began on Saturday. We were in a dither. Our son’s inspection of the apartment he was vacating was scheduled for Wednesday; we had motel reservations…

  • Leave the Floor to the Worms
'Chip Shots from the Ruff of Life' from Tom Kelley

"The spider skillfully grasps with its hands, and it is in king's palaces." Proverbs 30:28 Let me add something to that verse. "The worms will find a way to escape the deluge and will visit your palace in the morning." Yes, you read that right. Worms. The wet weather activates them. They have to come out of their little worm runs because of the water. For whatever reason they seek out our kitchen floor and enter under the back door off the deck. Pretty much every morning after a rainy day we have the little beggars on our floor right near that door. …

  • Accepting Christ
         ''Winging It' from Stan Smith

This is the key, isn't it? We -- we Christians -- all know it. It is the event, the point, the aim. What we pray for, want, hope, and work toward is to get as many as possible to accept Christ as their personal Savior. That's the phrase. "Accept Christ as your personal Savior." Where did that come from? You see, I find (with my tendency to examine words) that it irritates me, like a seed in my teeth. There's just ... something ... wrong. What is it? It's that word, "accept". It sounds like a condescension. It sounds like someone in a superior position deigning…

  • Treading the Necks of Kings
         'The Way' from Kevin Pauley

Then Joshua said, “Remove the rocks covering the opening of the cave and bring the five kings to me.” So they brought the five kings out of the cave—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon. Joshua told the captains of his army, “Come and put your feet on the kings’ necks.” And they did as they were told. “Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged,” Joshua told his men. “Be strong and courageous, for the Lord is going to do this to all of your enemies.” - Joshua 10:22-26 The first time God commanded…

  • The Unshakable Kingdom (2-25-11)
'Today's Little Lift' from Jim Bullington

“See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, ‘Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.’ Now this, ‘Yet once more,’ indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have…

  • Be Grateful for the Immense Privileges We Have in Christ
'Word from Scotland' from Sandy Shaw

Habakkuk does what many do - if you answer one question, then people change to ask another question – and Habakkuk criticises what God is going to do - of course this is past history - and man today would never react in that way! We have dismissed and rejected virtually every commandment and precept which God……

Last evening I had the privilege to view the tool collection of a friend of mine. I am not talking about Shopsmiths and digital saws. I am talking about tools from current times to way back. They are all kept in a garage. There are literally thousands of tools hanging in this man's garage. Many of them are not your average wrench.I was shown wrenches for every purpose you could imagine. If there was a need to remove a nut…

Proverbs 24:1-2 - Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them;
Words to Ponder
What am I the better if I can dispute that Christ is God, but have no sense of sweetness in my heart from hence that he is a God in covenant with my soul? What will it avail me to evince, by testimonies and arguments, that he hath made satisfaction for sin, if through my unbelief, the wrath of God abideth on me, and I have no experience of my own being made the righteousness of God in him,-if I find not, in my standing before God, the excellency of having my sins imputed to him and his righteousness imputed to me? Will it be any advantage to me, in the issue, to profess and dispute that God works the conversion of a sinner by the irresistible grace of his Spirit, if I was never acquainted experimentally with the deadness and utter impotency to good, that opposition to the law of God, which is in my own soul by nature, with the efficacy of the exceeding greatness of the power of God in quickening, enlightening, and bringing forth the fruits of obedience in me? It is the power of truth in the heart alone that will make us cleave unto it in an hour of temptation. Let us, then, not think that we are anything the better for our conviction of the truths of the great doctrines of the gospel, for which we contend with these men, unless we find the power of the truths abiding in our own hearts, and have a continual experience of their necessity and excellency in our standing before God and our communion with him. - John Owen (1616-83)

Genesis 49,50; Psalms 39; Hebrews 4:14-6:12:
-"Gather together and listen, sons of Jacob; Yes, listen to Israel your father. "Reuben, you are my firstborn, My might and the beginning of my strength, Preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power. -"Uncontrollable as water, you shall not have preeminence, Because you went up to your father's bed; Then you defiled it--he went up to my couch. "Simeon and Levi are brothers; Their swords are implements of violence. -"May my soul not enter into their council; May my glory not be united with their…
