Our Worthiness
Date Posted: October 21, 2016

“I call to the Lord who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies.”

2 Samuel 22:4

The Value of Things

What do we think of when we consider the worth of an item? If it is a tool, my husband used to recall how often he used it. If it is his fishing tackle, he could tell the number and the size of the fish he caught. We sometimes judge our need on how much we make use of an item.

This summer, we made some purchases and oversaw some projects that have been beneficial to us. One of the good results of our one project is a sitting area on our enclosed front porch. I try to make use of it each day. From my chair, I can watch the neighborhood and see the changes going on. I find myself praying again for my neighbors. In our back yard, we have a yard swing that we use as we can; rain and flying critters have caused me not to use it all the time. These two projects were things we should have done a long time ago.

We have people in our lives who need to know we hold them in high esteem, people we respect. Some people we maintain contact with no matter what happens in our lives.

How God Looks At Us

God looks on us as worthy children. He sent His son to earth so we would learn of Him. He had a plan in mind to send that Son to death on the cross in order to deem us worthy to enter heaven and live with Him for eternity.

What Jesus Thinks

What does Jesus say about our worthiness?” So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:31, NIV)

The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”. We sometimes conclude an outcome for a project or a plan too soon. We have to let plans unfold and watch them develop before we consider their worth.

The same thought applies to our estimation of people. We have to remember that God made that neighbor who chooses not to get to know us and loves them as He loves us. In addition, we have to extend grace when we discover something unsavory about a family member of a friend. God sees that mother with a child in prison as being as good as we are.

God is Worthy

“’You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things and by you they were created and have their being.’” Revelation 4:11

God has rescued His children from numerous trials. In the Bible, he worked through Queen Esther to save the Jewish people from extinction. He saved Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace. He provided a sacrifice for Abraham and Isaac. He provided His son as a sacrifice for our sins.

We serve a God who is worthy of all the glory we can give Him. He watches over us. He supplies our needs and protects us when we face peril.
