It is easy to say to ourselves, when we are busy with life’s demands and obligations, that a word, or a deed we know we should fulfill just seems to drift by. Lost in the business of a mind filled with daily personal care, and the world’s constant demands on our minds and our time. This is the world. The world we all must respond to in some way, every day. Oh! the business of this indiscernible something called life! Living in a fast changing world, it is almost impossible to see very far ahead in our lives. Usually only a few days, or even a few hours. This is as far as we can see ahead of us. However, Christ is walking just ahead of us. Unseen and usually, quietly. By the direction of the Holy Spirit, we are led just behind Him. Without knowing, we walk in His footprints. This being so, we are spiritually safe. Where He leads, we follow, being led by the Holy Spirit. The expression in quotes above made a striking impression on an ambulance driver and his assistant several years ago that they surely have never forgotten. I certainly haven’t! I was not there when it occurred, but I have never forgotten the story. Which story is true… A good friend of my deceased wife lived alone in a two-story apartment. She was in poor health, with several bodily afflictions which seemed to become steadily worse as the weeks and months passed by. Her health seemed to steadily worsen. That little word “if” rises again and again to question the obedience and disobedience of those who strive to remain faithful to God and their Savior. Even unto the time after Jesus came to earth, along with the Holy Spirit Who came to earth to strengthen those called out of sin and condemnation. That little word “if” places a conditional requirement on all humanity. Even those who are called and chosen for salvation. Do you feel sometimes that you simply must have rest? Some Christians in their zeal for their calling to be Christians, become so committed that they are near collapse under their burden. They feel that they must work harder for Jesus, and perform more than they perceive themselves to be abe may come up short in the sight of God, as well as others. We must realize that it is the genuine Christian who needs rest the most. There was, long ago - whether real or a story I do not know - a king who had tried to conquer this country (whether real or just a story I do not know) by every means at his disposal…without success. For years he had attacked from every angle, every power and war machine he could muster….always, without success. The territory he desired to conquer could not be subdued by any means in his arsenal, by any trickery he could devise. Most of us seldom realize that our whole lives revolve around what we believe. If we do not believe that our automobile would get us to where we desire to go, we would at least have second thoughts as to what we need to do next. Some would just take the chance - and drive. Some would ponder the next step, the next best thing to do, and attempt to go, regardless of any doubts or hesitations. They ignore the odds. It can be so easy when we feel down, and our life seems to have placed us on our on, to feel that God has somehow abandoned us. We can secretly feel in the darkness of our night as we try to sleep, that we must be a second-class Christian, that Jesus has place us last on the list of those whom He responds to. Today there are many who believe that the return of Jesus will return is very near. We observe various unusual sign in the sky and even on the earth. Although this is certainly possible, a statement by Jesus would seem to cause us to question any statement which would indicate He would come because or at the time of an event. Many it seems today decide to leave the church they have been attending. Some assume that if you leave a church, they have automatically abandoned Christ. There are many reasons. To those leaving, the reasons seem justified. Some of the reasons are justified, some are not. There are many churches to choose from and available to attend; therefore there are many also to leave, whatever the reasons. These two books of the Bible seem to the reader to be some of the most repetitious, detailed, and wearing to read of all the books of all the Old Testament. Many readers of them see no modern application that can be applied. It seems like history and history only. However these two books teach an incredible truth that is easy to miss because of the seeming repetition. Israel had refused to enter the promised land, after all they had suffered getting that far. The title of this writing has been commented on many times, and during many “times” down through past ages. It seems to get most people’s attention. At least for a while. However, the truth of what is recorded in the book of Revelation becomes more and more convincing with the publishing of world news - almost hour by hour. Can God use sinners while they are still sinners? Some would probably say a resounding “no!” However if this is true, we have a very serious problem with an incident that occurred in the Bible. There is a word used many times in the Bible that carries more weight and authority than any other in the Bible. It is used often in public prayer, as well as private conversations. We use the phraises "heavenly Father', "God", "Lord God", "Holy Father", etc. And these expression of worship and thanks are appropriate. But one word stands out as perhaps the most important word we can use in praying and references to God, whether in private prayers, giving of thanks, or public worship. That word is "Lord". Someone, attempting to be humorous said “I can resist anything…except temptation”. It has been my experience that this statement could not be any more true. It is a universal truth that is almost universally proven by the human race. Short, pithy sayings are often humorous, and also illustrate a more important principle or truth. The implication of this saying being that the temptation itself is not the factor in a person’s mind that is sin. Rather, the temptation that is given in to, becomes the sin.
