He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to love justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God! Micah 6:8 (NKJV) God shows us His goodness to us each day. The sun shining through my living room window brings the words, “Thank You, Lord!” to……  ( Click for more )

The Resurrection and the Life

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life.

He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;

and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.

Do you believe this?’” John 11:26-27 (NIV)

Jesus is in Lazarus’ home. Lazarus has died; his sisters are in mourning. The Master comforts the sisters.

The Lord says something to Martha that she doesn't fully understand. Her brother will rise again. She knows Lazarus will rise ‘in the resurrection at the last day.’

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering (patience), bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,

a stronghold in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9 (NIV)

From time to time in our Christian walk we face situations where we feel helpless. By this, I mean we don’t feel we have the strength to do anything to fix the issue. It seems we have to live with it. But really we don’t because we have Jesus interceding before God on our behalf.

I recently made a visit to a hospital to see an elderly lady from our church. My visitation partner and I came away blessed by the dear lady’s spirit. She spoke with difficulty…  ( Click for more )

Recently, as I read our local newspaper, I became sad about the violence occurring in our cities, our nation, and our world: People unable to peacefully resolve their differences, others, carrying weapons going into schools and taking out the lives of defenseless children and those called to educate them. Memorial Day weekend……  ( Click for more )
For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts, and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward men appeared, not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to His mercy……  ( Click for more )

Patient in Tribulation Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another, not lagging in diligence to one another, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. Romans 12:10-12……  ( Click for more )

In my reading, I happened upon a fact I hadn’t realized before. In Exodus, God instructs Moses that He has a very special name, “I AM WHO I AM”. (Ex.3:14a) God then goes on to advise this hesitant emissary, “This is what you are to say to the Israelites, ‘I AM has sent you’.”

During my freshman year of college, I took an introductory religion class. One thing I remember from that class is the early Hebrews did not say God’s name. They wrote the letters YHWH that have become the name Yahweh. What I learned this week is Yahweh comes…  ( Click for more )

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. James 1:2-4 (NKJV) As believers in Christ, we are faced with many trials as we……  ( Click for more )

Patience, Comfort Through Scriptures For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. These things I have spoken to you that in Me you will have peace. In the world you Will have tribulation; but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world. Thanksgiving is a holiday we celebrate on the fourth Thursday of November. We, as a nation spend time preparing and or eating a ‘traditional’ dinner. During the day we may find some time to reflect on things for which we are thankful.

However, thanksgiving encompasses much more. As God’s children we, on a regular basis, are to express gratitude to God for all He has done for us. God’s word has several scriptural passages that speak of giving thanks to God for His presence, His miraculous deeds, and His gifts to us and the people He sends into our lives…  ( Click for more )

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV) I find these words comforting. They convey the core message of our search for peace. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom……  ( Click for more )

What does it mean to have a thankful heart? I have come to believe that we need to have a thankful heart in order to grow in the Lord.

A Humbled Heart

Can we appreciate an act of God and not be humbled by that one deed? Jesus Christ, by his very willingness to go to death on the cross for our sins, humbled Himself before God. (Philippians 2:5-8) We have written evidence that Jesus wrestled in prayer over this.

The Apostle wrote often of his life belonging to Christ. One passage I am falling in love with is Acts 27:23: “Last night an angel of God whose I am…  ( Click for more )

“Let us come before him with thanksgiving

and extol him with music and song.” Psalm 95:2 (NIV)

One of the first things small children are taught by their parents is the phrase, “Thank you.”

When they learn those words, the parents introduce “You’re welcome” into their vocabulary.

When a child is a preschooler and he or she receives a gift or a favor, the parents may have to remind the children by asking, “What do you say?”

As God’s children, we learn to express our thanks to Him in many different…  ( Click for more )

“Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, I will uphold

You with My righteous right hand. For I, the Lord your God,

Will hold your right hand. Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’”

(Isaiah 41:10,13 NKJV)

As humans, we sometimes have fears. Some of us chose not to voice them to others because we think might be looked at as being silly. Small children are afraid of the dark. Certain adults, as children, got scared of storms and have that fear with them their…  ( Click for more )
