Whatever is True. . .
Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” (John18:38)
People have searched to find an answer to his question. Once, my Sunday school teacher asked this question of our class. A saintly lady answered with, “That which measures up to reality.” My concordance defines truth as: ‘that which is reliable, trustworthy, and consistent with the character and revelation of God.’

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:10 (NIV)
"Persecuted” ‘ to be afflict constantly so as to injure or distress especially for reasons of religion, politics or race.’1In the 20th Century, Adolph Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Idi Amin, Moa Zedong, and Joseph Stalin are men remembered in history as people who persecuted those who lived by a set of life guidelines they did not follow.

“Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another . . .” Peter speaks to everyone who reads this letter. He tells those chosen by God to live at peace with one another.
“ . . . be sympathetic, love as brothers. . .” Peter advises us to treat each other as you would a beloved family member. Also, the Golden Rule states that we should treat others as we wish to be treated if we were in their place. My favorite passage for… ( Click for more )

Jesus highlights a reward for those who remain true to God. What does He mean by ‘the pure in heart?’
Purity has several meanings; among them are ‘cleanness; clearness; Freedom from sin; innocence; chastity.1
Pure water is usually transparent. I remember, when I was a teenager, my mother told me that a person could see through iced tea that was good—not too strong.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.” Matthew 5:7 (NIV)
Jesus singled out the ones who exercise forbearance in dealing with others. We see Him showing mercy in His life when our Lord forgave the woman caught in adultery. Also he forgave the paralytic of his sins.
Showing mercy simply means we overlook the wrong done to us by another. We take into consideration the bad action and forgive the one who caused it.
Receiving mercy from another may follow our confession of a wrong doing on our part. In movies, we hear defense attorneys tell… ( Click for more )
